The Sultanate of Oman and Germany have enjoyed excellent relations over the years that have been produkctive for both partners. This book documents this cordial connections and Oman´s rich archeological and national heritage. Five articles present scientific output of Omani and German scholars in various fields and higlight the close cooperation between the Sultan Quaboos University in Al Khod/Muscat and several counterpart institutions in Germany.

This publication contains the papers presented at the symposium entitled Oman Germany: Cultural and Scientific Relations held at the Free University of Berlin in June 2008. The event was part of the Oman Cultural Week in Berlin, organised by Omans Ministry of National Heritage in cooperation with the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Berlin. Oman and Germany have long enjoyed mutually beneficial contacts, and it is my sincere hope that this volume will both contribute to the readers knowledge and enhance their understanding of the excellent relations between the two countries.
